Whose crisis?: The far right in Greece and the theory of the two extremes

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to introduce to you our new SEESOX blog called “Whose crisis?” which aims at contributing to the current debate on Europe’s economic crisis. Our blog is inspired by the severe crisis in Greece and indeed follows up on a conference which SEESOX organised in May 2011 on Greece’s politics, economy and society in the current time of uncertainty. With this blog we hope to add to the debate on the diagnosis and prognosis of the Greek crisis, focusing, at the same time, on the prospects for growth, social and political stability in the future. Having said that our aim is neither to isolate the Greek crisis from its European context nor to look at the current situation as a national problem of debt insolvency, but to engage with the wider European debate and compare with other cases in the western world. There is so much to say about the challenging and uncertain times which we are going through, that we all need to use our intellectual potential and imagination and think outside the conventional box. The current weak political leadership in Europe and the cacophony of the European Union certainly invites some critical and constructive thinking about the present and the future.

We hope that you will join us with your comments in our intellectual exercise.
